Through education, policy development, and advocacy, the National Child Abuse Coalition works to improve federal policies that support families in order to prevent and improve the public systems designed to respond to, child abuse and neglect.
ABOUT THE COALITION
Formed in 1981, the National Child Abuse Coalition has become the foremost resource on federal policy issues related to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. The Coalition embodies a commitment to coordinate advocacy efforts on behalf of abused and neglected children by providing a forum for robust policy conversations and consensus building, as well as a central point of contact for policymakers and their staff who wish to engage in child abuse and neglect issues.
OUR MISSION
The Coalition seeks to prevent child abuse and neglect well before families come to the attention of the child welfare system by strengthening families and communities. We also work to protect and support children and families that do come to the attention of CPS by improving the systems that respond to abuse and neglect.
We educate members of Congress and the Administration on the science of prevention and approaches that strengthen families, prevent child abuse and neglect, and support children and families who touch the child welfare system. We advocate for federal legislation, programs, and policies such as the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (also known as CAPTA), Title IV-B, and Title IV-E of the Social Security Act, and home visiting programs (MIECHV). We also lend our support to upstream prevention programs that strengthen families and prevent child maltreatment such as the child tax credit, paid leave, and child care.
